At 3 Stories, we specialize in inclusive communications strategies, which means we rely on audience insights, involve teams and communities and understand the messaging environment in which brands operate. Informed by almost 25 years in social change PR and brand strategy, it’s a mindset as well as a process — and it creates results.
3 Stories Communications offers an unusual blend of internal and external communications services:
- Organizational development communications and change management;
- Strategic communications planning and interim communications leadership for mission-driven organizations; and
- Brand strategy for new and existing entities.
About 3 Stories Founder and Principal, Deanna Troust
Deanna has dedicated her career to developing strategies with and in support of communities and the organizations that make them vibrant. She spent most of her career at Vanguard Communications, where as a senior vice president she helped lead the firm and developed inclusive social change campaigns that won awards, strengthened organizations and addressed issues affecting Tribal nations, linguistic communities, individuals with behavioral health needs and more, for clients ranging from Galvin Electricity Initiative to RTI International.
In 2016 she started 3 Stories Communications to provide fractional communications leadership for clients and bring strategic communications practice to organizational development consulting, including delivering trainings on storytelling as a superpower.
Around the same time, the growing flood of falsehoods we now call mis-, dis- and malinformation awoke a career-altering passion to develop human-centered solutions for addressing these dynamics. Deanna launched a nonpartisan educational nonprofit, Truth in Common, in late 2022 and now delivers media literacy workshops and professional development opportunities that dispel confusion, bridge social division and take a stand for facts.
Deanna is a trustee and public affairs lead for DC International School and a former member of Session at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church. She is a long-time resident of Washington, DC’s eclectic Adams Morgan neighborhood, where she lives with her husband, two college-age daughters and a rescue puppy in a turn-of-the-century rowhouse that helped inspire her company name.
